Rental FAQ

Does the money I pay go towards ownership
Yes! All of our contracts are rent to own, most of the quarterly payment is applied directly to owning the instrument. Any equity built up is transferable to other instruments in the store excluding consignment instruments.

Should I turn my rental in over the summer
Returning your instrument for the summer is completely up to you. If the instrument is returned any existing equity will dissolve, if you would like to own your instrument we would recommend renting through the summer.

How often should I bring my rental in to be inspected
We recommend bringing in your instrument every 6 months preferably when the seasons change. Feel free to come in at your convenience; there is no charge to access the instrument and most seasonal related work such as open seams are covered under the maintenance in all rental programs.

What happens when my student has to upsize
We recommend when your student needs to size up that you call ahead to make sure we have an available instrument. We recommend bringing the student so our staff can verify that moving up will be healthy and comfortable. Sizing is very important, being placed in an instrument too large can cause bodily harm with extended use.

How often should bows be rehaired
We recommend bows be rehaired every year. If you go for our optional insurance you are eligible for one free rehair every year. Sure ways to tell it’s time to get a rehair is when the hair becomes stretched out (you need to tighten the bow more than usual to get to normal tension), the hair starts to turn green or black towards the frog, or when the hairs start to break regularly and is thinning out by the frog or tip.

What does maintenance cover
The maintenance plan included in every contract covers the usual repairs needed to keep the instrument in working, playing condition.

Wilson fine violins will:
     • Adjust / Lower / Replace Bridge • Adjust String Height At Nut • Glue Minor Cracks
     • Adjust / Replace Fine Tuners • Adjust Soundpost • Glue Open Seams
     • Adjust /  Replace Tailgut             • Adjust Bow Eyelet • Replace End Button
     • Adjust pegs • Adjust Chinrest • Plane or Dress Fingerboard
     • Adjust String Height At Bridge • Some customization requested by teachers

The renter will not have to pay for normal wear of the instrument or bow while coverage is in effect (provided you follow the instructions on the Wilson fine violins Care and Feeding sheet). Maintenance coverage does NOT cover string replacement, rehairs, or major damage of any kind.
Maintenance coverage ends when the instrument is paid off or returned

Why should I get the optional insurance?/What does it cover?

We Highly recommend going with our optional insurance! String instruments are incredibly strong and also incredibly fragile. Opting into our insurance will give you a deductible in case the instrument is stolen or destroyed. As mentioned before the insurance also gets you a free rehair every year.

What is included in the rental program
Our rental outfit includes the instrument, case, bow, and a block of rosin
